101 Things to do before.....

I love a list.

When I create a list, it gives me an opportunity to express my wants and needs. It gives me guidelines. It is also a useful tool to look back on and reflect on.

Every summer I create goals for my kids.

So far I want to:

Go to Orlando
Take tennis lessons
Have a garden party

I also make a list of things to do before a major birthday. The time is ticking on my before 40 list. Here are some examples:

#5. Learn another language - Spanish preferably and help my kids learn it
#8. Finish novel
#9. Learn to sail

I love finding lists that encourage me to try new things.

The now defunct

Zoomdoggle.com created a wonderful book with a list of over 300 interesting things to do in NYC. Not your basic NYC tourist list.

Things like:
Atlantic Avenue Tunnel Tour.
International Pillow Fight Day.
Laugh Yoga

I just reviewed the book again and found out that I had done 14 more things from the list.

It included things like:

Comic Con - a convention for comic enthusiast.

Fat Cat - A low key West Village bar where you can play pool, scrabble, ping pong etc.

Red Bull Arena - my family and I watched out NY Red Bull soccer team win in a nail biting game.

I also found some places and things that I still want to do:

Polar Bear Club
Mermaid Parade
Brooklyn Brewery

The list I'm most consumed with right now is a list that I found in the book

The book not only provides and list of things to do but it also list places in the US and Canada to go to see these places.

As a list lover, this is exactly what I like.

I bought the book about 7 years ago.

Through the years I have checked off things that we have done that have happened to match the list.
We have done things like:

Go to a boardwalk. Wildwood, Atlantic City and Coney Island
Landmarks. Eiffel Tower and Great wall of China
Subway (everyday that we go to school)

For my sons 12th birthday,
I had planned to hand him a photo book with a picture representing 101 places that we have explored.

But with 10 days until he turns 12, I have realized that we have about 50 more things to do.

Last weekend I turned to one of my sisters in a panic that I had to finish this list.  She said she would be willing to accompany the kids and myself on a weekend marathon to try to complete as many things on the list that we can.

I started working on things.  I found a hall of fame for great Americans in the Bronx
https://www.bcc.cuny.edu/HallofFame/

There were other locations I found as well. But after googling for a while, I finally just told my son my dilemma and asked what places he would want to go.  He looked over the list and said, "a waterfall would be cool"

That was easy.  I guess since the list didn't come from him it wasn't as important.  He is interested in web development so I am sure my efforts would be better spent finding a course to teach him javascript and HTML coding.

As I am writing this, I am realizing that as a gift for him I could ask him to create a list of 13 things he wants to do before he is 13.  It would be interesting to see and I am sure he would feel a sense of accomplishment as he crosses things of his list.

Hmmmm.  But before I go here are some interesting list to share with your family.
