Here are 4 free classes in NYC. But you have to register quickly.
1. Swim Lessons.
New York Parks Department offers year round swimming lessons for people of all ages!! There is a "mommy" and me class for kids 1 1/2 -5 and a class for kids 6-17. Adults can even register classes. It is available at the NYC Parks and Recreation centers that have indoor pools during the fall, winter and spring months. It goes by lottery. Registration opened yesterday, January 8, 2014. Hurry!

2. Science class
NASA has been committed to exposing children to science who may not have access to it. Since 1999 NASA has teamed up with colleges across the country to offer courses for these children in a program called SEMAA, Science Engineering Mathematics and Aerospace Academy. York College in Queens offers one of these programs.
York College offers two 8-week Saturday sessions from 9-12pm. One in the fall and one in the spring. They also have summer day camp. The program is open to children grades 1-9.

3. Basketball
NYC Parks' 2014 Millennium Basketball Winter League, part of the Junior Knicks League presented by Sprite and Chase, will be forming 200 teams. The league is open to boys and girls aged 8-17.

4. Music Lessons
Quest Youth Organization still offers free music lessons on Saturday. Registration end February.
Open Registration started Saturday, October 5, 2013 and ends Saturday February 1, 2014, Free instrumental and music lessons are provided to youth ages 8 - 21. There is a one time, non-refundable registration fee of $45.
